I think most people in India are multilingual. Personally, I can read and write in three languages Kannada, English, and Hindi. (I do know some more languages that can communicate with computers, basically, programming languages).
If you know only one language, you are limiting yourself. Knowing multiple languages will open a lot more knowledge and wisdom that can steer your way of life, it can also change the way you think as well.
